Slice: INSIGHTS ON ASANA

by The House of Yoga | 23-11-2016

Did you know that ‘asana’ (which is the physical component of the yoga practice through postures) is only mentioned in 3 of the 196 Yoga-Sutras of Patanjali? The Yoga-Sutras of Patanjali (compiled around 400CE) are known as the foundational text of Ashtanga Yoga.

The physical postures are an essential component to the yogic path, but are traditionally seen as a practice of purification and preparation for the more subtle, inner aspects of yoga.

This is why at The House of Yoga we offer breathing and meditation techniques to explore along with your physical practice. If you have a bit of extra time, try sitting for a few moments in meditation once you have completed your asana class.
